It's advisable to have a bike check-up at least once a year, especially before the cycling season starts. If you use your bike frequently or under extreme conditions, more frequent maintenance may be necessary.
Here are the key points that are checked during a bike inspection:
Bike inspection - checklist
Srews and nuts
Ensure that all nuts and bolts are tightened in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations.
Bearings
Check the condition of all bearings, including the frame bearings on full-suspension bikes.
Wheels
Centre the wheels (included in the price) and ensure that the rims have no cracks or dents and that the spokes are intact and evenly tensioned.
Brakes and gears
Checking and, if necessary, replacing the brake pads, checking the brake and derailleur outer casings as well as the Bowden cables for damage and function, and bleeding the hydraulic brakes if necessary - all included in the price.
Shifting system
Adjust the shifting systems to ensure optimum function. Check that the chain runs cleanly and smoothly over the chainrings and cassette.
Drive wear
Check the drivetrain wear, including chain, chainrings and cassette, for wear and correct running.
Frame, fork, handlebar and stem
Checking the integrity of the bicycle frame, fork, handlebars and stem for cracks, dents, deformations and corrosion.
